Quick review: "I Love You, Phillip Morris" is based on the book of the same name, which is based on actual events. That only makes this film more fascinating. Steven Ray Russell (Jim Carrey) is a con man, making his living by ripping other people off. He's thrown in prison after getting caught in one of his many insurance frauds. While there, he meets and falls for Phillip Morris (Ewan McGregor). The two begin a cell-block romance. Once free, Russell dedicates himself to making Morris happy, and starts by convincing a large health organization to hire him as its chief financial officer through lies and a phony resume. Russell, who has a high IQ, does very well as CFO, but despite his high salary can't resist stealing nearly $1 million. When he's caught, it nearly destroys his relationship with Morris. But Russell will do anything to escape so they can get back together. Carrey brings his usual enthusiasm to the work, which can be over the top at times. McGregor does his usual terrific work and the love scenes between the two work. This very unusual love story grabs your attention and doesn't let go. It's hard to like Russell, with all of his lies and manipulations, but it's also hard not to admire him. His escapes are brilliant.
