Synopsis: Two young men are so in love with one another that not even death can keep them apart in this arthouse film.
Quick review: Remember what mainstream fans hate about arthouse films? They are two long. Check. They require reading subtitles (unless you speak Spanish). Check. They have long stretches of film where no one says anything. Check. Instead of action, you get all these artistic shots. Check. You can keep going right down the checklist with Raging Sun, Raging Sky. Some of the scenes are beautiful. It alternates between black and white and color and symbolism is a big part of the story. As for the story itself ... I wish it had one. It is very long, at 3 hours and 11 minutes. And if there are 311 words of dialogue, I'd be shocked (not including the subtitles for the songs). Most of the film are attractive men cruising for sex. If you don't know the proper way to cruise, this is an excellent guide. Rule 1, don't talk. Ever. Rule 2, hang out in bathrooms and porn theaters. Rule 3, most guys don't want to kiss. Rule 4, it's a bad idea to ejaculate in someone's mouth. Eventually, the story focuses on three boys who are regulars at cruising. Two of them are destined to break free of the cruising scene and fall in love. The third will play a role in keeping them apart. There's a good message of how desperately lonely some of these cruisers are. How those few quick moments never satisfy them and they want more than a quickie in a dark theater or bathroom cubicle. But overall, the film is way too long and even the second half of the film being almost entirely of hot guys walking around naked isn't enough to hold your interest. But it is well made, and it did win a Teddy Award at the Berlin International Film Festival. So, if you do like arthouse films, this is for you.
