USA
Director:
Jonah Markowitz
Starring:
Trevor Wright, Brad Rowe, Tina Holmes, Ross Thomas, Katie Walder
Synopsis:
Zach is an aspiring artist who is frustrated by the responsibilities in his life. He reconnects with the brother of his best friend and discovers a passion for men and life that he had long ignored.
Quick review:
Zach is in his early 20s and eager to explore his artistic side, but cannot. He has to care for his father, his sister needs him and most of his nephew needs him. Instead of being carefree and selfish, Zach is forced to push his own desires aside to take care of others. He has a girlfriend, but doesn't find a lot of pleasure in that relationship. And it promises to be a dreary summer as his best friend Gabe is about to leave for a while. Enter Gabe's older brother, Shaun, who has been away for a few years. It's no secret that Shaun is gay. Since he is Gabe's brother, and Gabe is gone, Zach invites Shaun to go surfing. Soon a romance begins. Zach must decide if he will continue to do what others want, or if he will let go of those expectations and pursue what he wants. It does travel on familiar ground, but is a strong film for a first time director and screenwriter, Jonah Markowitz. The sex scenes are passionate but the more touching scenes of love between Zach and Shaun, and even how they both care for the nephew, Cody, make this a film worth seeing.
