Frozen Flower, A

Year: 2008
Country: South Korea
Director: Yoo Ha
Starring: Ju Jin Mo, Jo In Sung, Song Ji Hyo
Synopsis: When Korea goes gay, they do it with some epic historical stories like this one. A king is pressured to produce an heir, but since he's gay he asks his lover to have sex with his wife.
Quick review: I watched this film with a Korean friend of mine and when the gay sex scene appeared, he was a bit surprised. Ju Jin Mo and Jo In Sung are both famous Korean actors, so seeing them get it on would be the same as seeing Russell Crowe and Will Smith getting it on (both have played gay, by the way, but before they became major stars). This film is set during the Yuan Dynasty and opens with the new prince checking out the boys who would be sworn to protect him during his life. He takes a liking to one boy, which is a bit creepy, but luckily for the audience isn't explored too deeply. Fast forward 20 or so years and the prince is now king and that one boy, Hong Lim, is the head of his body guards. He also the king's lover, and it's not exactly a secret. There is a queen, who is feeling very neglected. She was chosen by the Chinese to help tie Korea to their land. Therefore, she has few friends in the court. When the nobles begin demanding an heir to the throne, the king has a problem. He cannot provide one, so he asks his lover to fill in for him. Reluctant at first, Hong Lim does as his king demands, but the first few attempts do not end with a child. So he keeps going back for more and begins to realize that he likes this straight sex, maybe even more than he loves the king. Bisexuals will enjoy this film because they get plenty of sex, most of it straight. There is one castration scene that may be difficult to watch. And I got tired of all the straight sex and wished there had been a few more boy-on-boy scenes. But this is a movie everyone should enjoy it. It's an epic story filmed beautifully.
