Quick review:
I've seen three on Here! Network's Donald Strachey mysteries and have a love-hate relationship with them. It's probably the source material (I haven't read the books), but the plots are so over the top that it's hard to give them a full endorsement. However, the relationship between Donald and his partner, Timothy, makes me inclined to forgive those eye rolling moments. And Chad Allen and Sebastian Spence are perfect actors for the lead roles. I suspect the series' success is because of the chemistry they share. In this film, an old flame of Timothy's is back in Albany to help his former high school counselor, who is in trouble with the school board and facing vandalism at home. Strachey is on the case, but everyone seems to have a secret and no one can tell the truth. And you just know by the end of the film that Strachey will not only solve the case, heal a couple of gay relationships, stop gay teen suicide and get a homophobe to love his gay son, but in his spare time he will fix global warming and solve the Middle East peace puzzle. But if you can put up with that, watching the relationship Donald and Timothy share is fun. It will make you want to watch the next Donald Strachey mystery when he no doubt will cure HIV and save the whales.
