Another Gay Movie
Year:
2006
Country:
USA
Director:
Todd Stephens
Starring:
Michael Carbonaro, Jonathan Chase, Jonah Blechman, Mitch Morris, Scott Thompson, Graham Norton
Synopsis:
Someone has finally decided to make a gay spoof film, and in the grand history of spoof films, this one sucks.
Quick review:
This movie got a laugh out of me in the first minute, when they pulled back on the sign of the school, San Torum High. Pity that was my last laugh. I admit that the kinds of films that appeal to me tend to have a strong political undercurrent. They are serious and have gravitas. But, I'm not a complete stick in the mud. When I was a teen I saw Porky's and laughed just as hard as anyone else. But that was then. I'm older now and would probably be amazed I ever found Porky's funny if I saw it today. This may be the first gay Porky's movie, but it's modeled more after American Pie. The premise: Four gay friends make a pact to lose their anal sex virginity before the end of the summer and they all head off for college. The gimmick: Loads of cameos by well-known gay men. But where the film falls apart is instead of getting creative, they just use other film's gimmicks and made them gay. And they forgot the funny. Maybe some will think seeing Survivor winner Richard Hatch running around nude without the digital blackout is laugh out loud. Personally, I could have gone my entire life without that sight. Or most of the jokes in this film. Maybe gay teens will find it hilarious and enjoy it. Maybe I'm too old and too cynical. But I knew Porky's. Porky's was a friend of mine. And Another Gay Movie, you're no Porky's.
