24th Day, The

Year: 2004
Country: USA
Director: Tony Piccirillo
Starring: James Marsden and Scott Speedman.
Synopsis: A man who has only been with one man sexually, confronts his ex-lover when he learns he is HIV positive.
Quick review: This film was adapted from Piccirillo's play and you can see how it would work as one. Most of the plot takes place in Tom's (Speedman) apartment. The truth is that the revelations and underlying emotions make this a good gay thriller and very different from most gay films you see. Tom discovers that he's HIV positive and is pretty sure he knows how he got it. He's married and he's only cheated once, with a guy he picked up at a bar. Dan told him he was using a condom, but did he? And if it wasn't Dan who gave him the disease, then how did he get it? Tom refuses to believe that his wife would have cheated on him. But there is that little doubt. So what's a guy to do? How about kidnap Dan, tie him up, take some blood and get it tested. Then, he'll know for certain. The movie drags at some points, but that's to help the audience relate to Dan's predictament. Still, the intensity of this show and just how different it is make it worth seeing.
